The Stories Behind Our Schools Book Project, was a special project initiated in Fall of 2016, in celebration of 165 years of San Francisco Unified School District.

Each school community was invited to research, investigate and document their school's unique history. The compilation of stories capture and illustrate many of the underlying traditions, historical origins, cultural customs, and key individuals that make San Francisco’s public schools such special places to learn and grow. Each school site received a bound copy of the book containing the edited compilation of all of district schools’ histories as a gift and resource for the school library.

Please note: The stories in this book are derived from several resources, including oral histories, yearbooks, school site archives, published news articles, and materials on file at the San Francisco Public Library. Some stories may contain information that cannot be verified by an independent source.
